Yeah, I know it's weird 
This is #42 of the 100 theme challenge: Standing Still.
I saw on the Discovery Channel that octopuses/octopi are very good camouflagers and can blend in with almost any environment. In the particular show I saw (I can't remember the name!) they put an octopus in a tank with checkered tiles and the octopus turned to the color and patterns of the checkered tiles (though it didn't have perfect squares on its body)
So, the idea for this piece was of an octopus sitting on a plaid floor/tablecloth/etc and blending in by being perfectly still. Perhaps people would pass by and not see it. The chances of being seen drop when it isn't moving
Its pattern doesn't completely match the background because when I had it matching, it was really hard to see it. I didn't want it to be totally invisible, I just wanted the octopus to have similar colors.

Very cool, I think the variation in the subject's pattern and the background pattern was a smart choice. The image is impressive and fun, still getting the idea across, without being confusing.
